NTUMS Global Alumni Network(GAN)

Vision and Mission
Vision:
To establish a network of leaders to lead the global ummah towards Mardhatillah
Mission: Establishing a platform for our NTUMS members to connect with and engage one another for the exchange of resources and hence, expanding our capacity to carry out da’wah efforts.

NTU Muslim Society has established global network relations with muslims from all over the globe. Furthermore, we also have existing members and alumni not only locally, but internationally as well. GAN is an effort to take a step further in order to strengthen and concretize the local and international relationships that NTU Muslim Society has established. Therefore, with these relations and networks, we are able to help make a difference and reach out to a greater mass of muslims. For example, NTU Muslim Society currently has networks with muslims from these countries:
Malaysia
Indonesia
Thailand
Pakistan
Canada
Kazakhstan
Aner Baijaan
Canada
France
Iran
Morocco
Dubai
Singapore

However, GAN does not only include muslims or members from overseas, but most importantly, GAN includes NTUMS Alumni too! Therefore, GAN is inclusive of NTUMS Members; Executive Committees, Sub-Committees, Ad-hoc Committee and any other NTU students/staff who would like to be part of this network.
Why GAN?

The Benefits of GAN to the Alumni:
1. Infinite opportunities for venturing on International grounds
Leveraging on this global network will enable our alumni to gather resources easily which will enable them to explore opportunities available beyond our local boundaries. This is especially so for alumni who are seeking for overseas business opportunities.
2. Efficient exchange of resources
Being part of this global network, it would be easier for our alumni to exchange resources with our alumni from all parts of the world. The sharing of resources here may include providing support to our fellow alumni from the other parts of the world in terms of monetary and non-monetary support.
3. A common platform for our alumni to interact with and engage one another
With the events organized and channels put in place to maintain the NTUMS GAN, it will be an excellent opportunity for our alumni to be involved in our da’wah efforts and hence, contribute back to our community.

The Benefits of GAN to current NTUMS Members
1. Alumni support crucial for sustainability of NTUMS Da’wah efforts
Currently, NTUMS is facing a huge constraint of resources which inevitably restricts the amount and nature of our NTUMS program/events that can be organized. This constraint, such as the lack of financial support, is significantly hindering NTUMS’ effort of outreaching to more muslims (and also non-muslims) and also bring our program (da’wah effort) to beyond NTU and local boundaries.
Other constraint of resources also includes the lack of ‘expertise’, small network base and others.
2. Using our alumni as inspirational role models
A significant number of NTUMS alumni are now prominent figures in our local/international community. This includes our first President of NTUMS, Mr Masagos Zulkifli, who is now the senior parliamentary secretary of Ministry of Education. Bringing back successful alumni such as Mr Masagos will inspire our students to work hard for their success in life and at the same time, not forgetting to continuously contribute back to our community.
The knowledge and experience of our alumni will also be useful learning points for the current NTUMS members.

Strategies
Strategies to establish NTUMS GAN
1. Outreaching to all Alumni
03
Before we can establish the NTUMS GAN, we must first outreach to all NTUMS alumni and bring them back to NTU. This is done via NTUMS 21st Anniversary cum fundraising dinner, which will be held on 31st May 08. Details of this event are as elaborated on the next part of this proposal.
This event may be insufficient to outreach to all our past alumni. Hence, we will go through the alumni who will be present during our event to outreach to all the other alumni.
2. Creating and Maintaining of alumni database
All contact information gathered from the above effort will be stored into a database of alumni which will continuously be maintained and updated by all future executive committees.
To ensure high confidentiality of the database, passwords will be put in place and this password will be changed annually. This will ensure that only the current Honorary General Secretary of NTUMS has access to the database. The usage of the database will only be possible with the approval of the President of NTUMS for that period.
3. Creating a common platform for interaction between alumni and hence, maintaining the network
This can be done through various means such as the following;
Online platforms –NTUMS GAN Facebook
This is a good platform for both our local and international alumni to interact and keep in contact with one another. This platform also allows for extensive online socialization.
Annual events
Annual events such as the NTUMS Alumni Dinner and NTUMS Family Day gives good opportunities for our alumni to meet-up and strengthen the ukhuwah between them.
It will also be a good platform for our current NTUMS members to interact with our alumni, hence, bridging the gap between them.
Publications – NTUMS Newsletters
Besides having an online platform, NTUMS newsletters is also an effective way of updating our alumni on the latest happenings in NTUMS and hence, make them feel part of the NTUMS family.
Privileges from NTUMS Alumni to NTUMS Alumni
As mentioned above, many of our alumni are now successful figures in our community. Hence, exchanging benefits in the form of special privileges for NTUMS GAN members would also be possible.
Bringing Current Students to NTUMS GAN
1. Pre-Graduation Strategy
In order to maintain and expand NTUMS GAN, we need to start raising awareness on this network amongst our members, even before they graduate. This can be done continuously engaging our alumni to interact with our undergraduates.
For examples, currently, some alumni have been actively coming back to NTUMS as facilitators and speakers in NTUMS camps and programs. These occasions are opportunities of NTUMS to raise awareness amongst the undergraduates on the existence and purpose of NTUMS GAN.
In addition, we need to establish a culture of ‘contributing back to NTUMS’ amongst our undergraduates. Having more of the above occasions will be able to help NTUMS establish this culture in the long run.
2. Upon-Graduation Strategy
Adopting just the pre-graduation strategy is insufficient. We need to ensure that our graduating students receive complete information to motivate them to practice the culture of contributing back to NTUMS.
Hence, we need to have an NTUMS Convocation.
NTUMS convocation is an event which is aimed at appreciating our graduating Muslim students for all their contributions towards NTUMS. This event will enable us to establish a permanent link between NTUMS and the graduating students who will then be part of NTUMS GAN.
More importantly, this event serves to remind our graduating students on the importance of continuing their effort in contributing to our society, and hence, promoting a culture of contributing back to NTUMS. NTUMS Convocation also serves as a platform for external organisations such as MENDAKI, Perdaus or even companies/corporations such as HTHT to offer our graduating Muslims with job opportunities, such as in the Islamic Banking sector.
3. Post-Graduation Strategy
This is similar to the point above.
NTUMS GAN: The First Leap!
The NTUMS 21st Anniversary Dinner is only the first step for the society to engage and build ukhuwah amongst our alumni.
The society aims to formalize the NTUMS Global Alumni Network as a recognized club or organization. This network aims to not only a point of resources for the current NTU Muslim Society but also to be a source of inspiration for our local and global community.
This very organization would reflect how graduates are able to come together regardless of expertise and era, sharing resources, engaging one another and generating new ideas while holding strong to the fundamental Islamic values; all in the name of leading the society towards mardhatillah.
This organization hopes to inspire other graduates and even career persons to embrace the habit of contributing back to the society as a life long act amongst fellow brothers and sisters.
